New and old friends in May

Right at the beginning of May, I went to visit Washington DC and Philladapia by bus. Back to New York, a Thai Film program at Asia Society was curated by La Frances Hui. The program was also got a lot of help from Thai Artist Alliance to spread the word to Thai community in New York. There were 2 Thai filmmakers gave a talk during the program, Pen-Ek Ratanaruang and Apichartpong Weerasethakul. I’m a good friend of Apichartpong for a long time. We met several time while he and his boyfriend “Teem” was in New York. It was warm feeling to see friends from home. It’s also good start for me to meet more people in the art/ film scene in New York through him. I also arranged a welcome party for him at the same time a warming party for my new apartment and beginning fellowship in New York. We got complimentary tickets for all Thai Film Program at Asia Society and also Apichartpong’s Solo show program at New Museum and Anthropology Film Archive. I became a good contact with John Mhiripiri from Anthropology Film Archive since then. I went to an alternative film festival “Rooftop Film Festival”. It was held at a rooftop of High school around Lower East side on Grand Street. Through ACC fellowship, I had opportunity to be part of ISCP The International Studio & Curatorial Program in New York.  I can use a studio there from July-September, 2011. Since there was an Open Studio at ISCP in May. I went there first time on the evening of May 13. It was great to see other artists’ works and how the studios function. I met a Japanese artist, Satoru Eguchi there through a good friend of my Thai artist friend, Att Poomtangon. I met Satoru more frequently later in Japan and Thailand in the same year. It was so special month in May, 2011.
