Greetings all!

Payap University is proud to announce our upcoming Lifescapes Southeast Asian Film Festival

from 3-6 February 2011!

A lifescape is an expanse – life, livelihood, and reality – that can be seen in a single view.

The Lifescapes program will screen contemporary films – documentary, docu-drama, dramatic – to showcase thoughtful work with a social conscience. The festival hopes to raise awareness the film culture and filmmakers of Southeast Asia who make meaningful social commentary with their work – showing the “beautiful” without flinching from “grim reality.”

We will screen films that explore regional issues and human rights struggles within mainland Southeast Asia: Cambodia, Lao, Burma/Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. The program will be interactive, offering audience members, directors, producers, NGO representatives, students, and academics the opportunity to join together in a number of post-screening Q&A sessions, panel discussions, and talks throughout the program.

In addition to the films

, presentation topics include the use of music in film

, the purpose of film to merge beauty, entertainment and social conscience

.  We will hear from training organizations in SE Asia

who provide opportunity for young, local filmmakers to tell their stories through film, as well as a number of post-screening Q&A sessions with filmmakers.

All activities will take place on the Payap University Mae Khao Campus

(behind Carrefour) in the Sirindhorn Learning Resource Center.

All films will have English subtitles and presentations will be bilingual Thai / English.  All activities on the Payap campus are FREE and open to the public.

OPENING NIGHT
Everyone is invited to join us on Thurs. 3 February at 6pm for the Opening Screening of Agrarian Utopia
, winner of the UNESCO Award by Thai director, Uruphong Raksasad.  After the screening, stay with us for a post Q&A with the director himself.

CLOSING NIGHT
The program will culminate on Sunday 6 February with Chiang Mai's premiere screening of renowned director, Apichatpong Weerasethakul's, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives

, which won the Palme D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival 2010.  This will be held at 7pm at Major Cineplex Chiang Mai 4th Fl., Central Plaza Chiang Mai Airport.  Normal tickets can be purchased for 100 baht.  Check out the website to find out where to purchase, but hurry before they sell out!
